Video: Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 against the Mercedes C63 AMG Coupe drag race
AdvertisementEvo magazine drags the Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 against the Mercedes C63 AMG Coupe. Similarly priced but with polar-opposite performance levels.
The flagship Mustang is a brute of a car with 662 horsepower and 631 pound-feet of torque. It’s also unbelievably fast that loves nothing more than stretching its legs in a straight line. So when British supercar magazine Evo got hold of the only model in Europe, there was only one place to take it: the drag strip. Europeans that want the new Shelby GT500 Mustang will have to import it from the US. With a base price of $54,995, there will certainly be some takers even with the hassle and cost of shipping it eastwards. That’s because for the same money you get a C63 AMG around 200 hp worse off than the 200-mph American muscle car. The 1km drag race does seem like a non-event given the awesome power of the Shelby, even with the C63′s rapid seven-speed automatic box.
But it’s always nice to see a US born-and-bred muscle car wiping the floor with a German pretender.
