Video: Ride with the illegal Kanjozoku midnight racers in Osaka
AdvertisementOn the Kanjo Loop highway that rings the Japanese city of Osaka, a group of close-knit racers flaunt the law in unidentifiable modified Civics.
They’re the Kanjozoku, heirs to a late-night illegal racing scene that stretches back to the 1980s and influences Japanese (and American) car culture to this day.
They favor heavily-modified Civic hatchbacks, and they tend to grind the VINs off of them. Some wear masks. All of them hate the cops. What they do is dangerous, irresponsible, and of course highly illegal—if it wasn’t, they wouldn’t do it.
