Video: Tesla Model S Vs. BMW M5 drag race

Can the immediate torque of an EV trounce the mighty M5? Find out in this week’s editing of Drag Race Tuesdays.

Say what? It may sound a bit hard to believe for some, but the new Tesla Model S is a torque beast. How much twist is there on hand exactly? 443 pound-feet from 0 rpm. This is one of the few performance advantages of a pure electric car, but a standard Nissan Leaf isn’t anywhere near as powerful. The Tesla’s immediate torque allows for rapid acceleration that just may be enough to take on the likes of the BMW M5 and its twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8 with 560 horsepower and 502 lb-ft of torque. Automobile magazine’s Ezra Dyer took some time out from testing for the gloss-book’s Car of the Year award to put this little matchup together.

Does the electric sedan have what it takes to dominate the M5 in a head-to-head matchup? Find out here in this week’s edition of Drag Race Tuesdays.
